Good Thing to share

It'd been quite some time since i update my blog. As my son graduate college and he asked if he could invest in opening his own cafe and lounge bar, it has been my nightmare. Well, it is clear that young adults today are passionate and aggressive. On the other side, they are impulsive and lack of actual experiences in the real world. After some discussion and hard-work shown by Peter, me and Marry decide to play the supportive parents role.

We have seen lots of improvements in Peter within this 6 months while our son is trying to proof to us that he's a grown mature adult now, and it is not a game nor impulse decision. He gathered information, study the market and competition, make analyze on the consumer buying trend, weigh his budget and options before making every steps in the business. I guess it's worth a shot once you see all the efforts he put in and trying to make things right.

After 6 months or prep works and renovation, the baby is finally born. What we didn't expect is how much traffic it is during the new opening period. Everything is a mess @.@ wrong orders, slow delivery, customer complaints, long line. We cannot even satisfied the takeouts customer because of lack of manpower helping in the kitchen. Since it's a breakfast and hi-tea type of cafe, we imagine that it'll be smooth since most of our food is ready made such as sandwiches, panini, waffles, pancakes, milkshakes, fruit juices and etc.

It is a labor day weekend on our opening. It started to get crowded around 11am. There are a varieties of beverages to choice from on the menu; however, we only have 5 members working (3 on the front, 2 in the kitchen). It caused heavy congested in the kitchen and long haul waiting for the take aways customers.

After 3 weeks in the business, i told Peter he will need to think of a better plan of managing his business. If he continues to rely on manual man power, the business is not going to sustain in the long run. I give Peter a few contacts and told him to figure out which POS for restaurant is going to suit his business environment.

After he made some initial contact and comparison, he picked ARMS fnb Point of sale software. We then schedule an appointment to meet with the ARMS software provided to get more info regards the POS software. The software which is an app in the iTunes app store can be easily download and set up through hooking up cash drawer and receipt printer together with the iPad. Since we need the order list to be print to kitchen and to the bar counter, we bought 3 printers and 1 cash drawer from ARMS POS software. The ARMS f&b we download the full version from app store since we are confident that we can do the set up and installation on our own.

Since it's an app that build on an iPad, there're some neat function can be done. One of it that i love which is the snap thumbnail pictures function. Look at the pictures below for some examples. What it does it that you can simply take a picture from your iPad while you are in your restaurant and immediately turn the picture become a thumbnail in ARMS f&B POS system. 

Isn't it amazing? It is pretty cool right? Hehe, there are many more functions that is very user friendly in the ARMS iPad f&B app. One of them is that you can edit or change or category/items at anytime you like even while you're running your business. The changes take effect immediately instead of you have to contact your provider for any further update.

The ultimate reason that we picked ARMS f&B Point of sale software is because it is tech savvy, easy to use and it's totally affordable. Our business has become much more manageable since we start using ARMS f&B POS. It is highly recommend to those who are in the food business and want a easy to use, cost efficient POS system!
